I have been with BMI for years and I'm wondering and would like to get some info on which company is better or pays more or who can do more for the artist BMI or ASCAP. I have always defended BMI but I'm having some doubts and possibly some problems and would like to hear more from someone on both companies.

As far as Nashville goes in my opinion ASCAP are much for helpful to the little guy. BMI however seem better at tracking. I heard a story about a song cowritten by an ASCAP writer and a BMI writer. The BMI writer was earning a much higher percentage. The ASCAP writer had to go back and demand that they find the extra money. Which they did.

I have a problem with some missing money from the years 1989 to 2002(BMI) and I probably need a lawyer, if anyone has info on that( a good cheap lawyer) please email me. The problem is being able to afford an attorney to resolve issues with companies that can afford lawyers.I know I'm not the only muscian that could use legal help so if anyone has some good ideas please speak up , thanks Richy

(star) bmi and ascap collect money for airplay and some related type performance money, usually radio and tv are the main sources. They are the biggest and I would say yes if your getting some airplay.

I haven't checked in a while, so you'll want to verify: I think ASCAP does not monitor small college radio stations while BMI does. That's why I chose BMI-- I knew my music wasn't going to get much airplay elsewhere.
