Over the last 6 months, what is the average amount of money
per month you've made solely from digital sales? (Mp3s via
iTunes, CDbaby, Amazon, etc-- NOT hardcopy CDs sold via the
web.)
No band/recording names please, maybe if this is kept
anonymous there will be no fake hype & inflated numbers.
Simply post just your music's genre, your avg/month, and
highest/lowest month of the last 6 mos. from whenever you read
the post.
This is all just to help get some stats to see what is actually
going on with indie artists & digital sales.
So... me first:
genre: electronic
avg/month last 6 mos: $750.13
hightest of last 6 mos: $1362.53
lowest of last 6 mos: $20.68

We have over 50 rock songs, but our only real seller has been verizon v cast. Our song hussein the rock song was placed in the rock catagory at number 5. We have made about 70.00 per month for the last 2 years. location, location, location. We were very lucky until recently verizon and rhapsody hooked up and now verizons v cast is gone and so is my listing. verizon had a great site that catered to the indies more than any other site, now its gone. I think this idea of showing income from artist on cdbaby is a GREAT idea, we should all show what we make and from what sites!!

Over a year on CD Baby, our total digital sales for our two releases is $16.92. We promote CD Baby as the main place to get our music online, but everyone just buys through iTunes anyway even though we sell it for cheaper through CD Baby.
Genre is alternative rock/grunge.

Have been on digital since the start (2004)...{Progressive Rock) Digital sales really picked up when Verizon V-Cast started in 2007, then I averaged $30/mo. with highest month $90. Anyone know more about Verizon/Rhapsody deal? O am concerned because Rhapsody sells listens more than downloads for me...for not even .009cents each.

hey there
I make an average of $1000 a month using digital distribution on cdbaby and it's increasing...
My only wish would be that they allow us to deliver tracks by upload, that would be fantastic

newtf and kaysha --
Congratulations on the digital sales! I'd love to hear some more details about what you're doing to generate those sales -- promotion, touring, social networking, etc.
Thanks!!

We haven't done very well. I use cdbaby as our main site for purchasing our songs but it doesn't seem to be picking up.
Any suggestions out there on how to generate more sales???
We are making about $2 per month.

Hi Gayle,
I went to your CD Baby page and didn't see a link to iTunes. Are you on iTunes? If so, get a link on your CD Baby page. That might help, especially if you are referring people to CD Baby for sales.
Also, you might consider dropping the price a bit on CD Baby for the mp3 download. Even if you raised the price for the physical CD a buck or two and kept the mp3 price at $8, that might help. People want to see that they get a bit of break buying the download over the physical CD.

Gayle, log in to your CD Baby account. Click on Your Items > Edit Album Info > Links Back to You. If iTunes is not in the list, you can add it in. Open up your iTunes program. Go to your album page on iTunes. Right click on your album cover and you'll see that you can copy your album's URL. Now you can just paste that into your CD Baby linkmaker in your CD Baby account.
Hope that helps...

NICE!!! - I will try that.
Can you do that for all the digital download sites??? i.e. Rhapsody, Napster??? Just wondering?

Yep!
From many sites you can search your artist name and copy the link from the address bar (http://website.com/123)
and use that.
Others have cool link making tools, or even widgets.
The following are some linking tools our partner sites offer :
(Note: if you have only recently started digital distribution, you may not be up on these sites yet. It can take up to 3
months)
APPLE iTUNES linkmaker :
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSearch.woa/wa/itmsLinkMaker
NAPSTER has a single song linkmaker
http://free.napster.com/napsterlinks/
PAYPLAY has a widget maker. Just search for your album here :
http://payplay.fm/
**Once you've located it, click "widgit" on your album page.
AMAZON has an MP3 widgit you can use if you sign up for their affiliate program
http://widgets.amazon.com/Amazon-MP3-Clips-Widget
Hope this helps out, Gayle!

AWESOME- You have been a huge help.
I figured out the itunes one last night and added it to our page.
I will get the other ones and add them as well.
Thanks for being so supportive.
