So you probably have heard about Radiohead and NIN holding
contests to remix their songs..
I am very excited to announce a contest to remix songs form my
new album, "Ready to Wake Up". If you can imagine a brand new
version of any of these songs, now is the time to show off your
creative style.
The winning remixes will appear on a full-length remix album.
This contest is open to everyone. Soon, the "stems", or songs
components (bass, voice, piano, guitar, strings/FX and drums)
will be available for download and you can remix your own versi
on of the songs. You can do this by adding your own beats and
instrumentation or just remixing the original parts.
You will then be able to upload your finished mixes onto my
website and your song will be judged and even voted on by 'the
public'.
You will also be able to create a widget allowing votes from your
own website, Facebook or MySpace page to be sent through too.
Stay tuned for more details on the contest.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like if you're happy with the mix, why would you want other people messing with it? You spend hours in the studio playing and replaying the tracks until you get the mix exactly the way you want and it reflects the original idea your started with before anything was even played or recorded. I know DJs have been doing this for years, but sheesh, it looks like everyones getting into the act! I thought about getting the Radiohead tracks to play with, but what I would do with it would make it less Radiohead-sounding and more like me. I'm a hage fan and I like the Cd just the way it is, but I'm not one of them--that's what makes it unique.

To Chris:
I am completely happy with the way my record turned out. I am not asking people to "fix" it by remixing. A remix is an interpretation by another artist, a different artistic perspective. I am interested in seeing what others come up with by intergrating components of my music with their own, or copyright-safe loops.
I understand that you may not get why I'm doing this..but take a listen to Celeste Lear's remix of my song "Breaking Down", and then listen to the original. Her remix takes the basic elements of the song, ut transforms it into a completely different genre while retaining the core of the song.
If any other artist (like Art Paul) has had experience as a remixer or remixee, I'd love to hear from you.
Have a lovely day!
