    About www.ilike.com

Marketing Ideas I read a recent interview in Disc Makers newsletter that recommended artists to sign up for www.ilike.com membership. I did so, as it was seemed like a good marketing/promotional tool. They (ilike) link to facebook, bebo, hi5, and other sites and you apparently manage all those link pages from your ilike dashboard. However, you cannot go into facebook, etc. to manage your created page. You have to have the created page deleted and start a whole new membership with the partner sites. This deletes your ilike page that was provided by ilike....anyway, it's so complicated to get support and there is no way to contact ilike...not for questions (just a faq page that does not answer your questions). Also, and here's the real mystery, ilike has posted on my ilike page and partner pages, songs that I did not even submit to them, including song bytes that they mysteriously acquired. You cannot contact them about it, so, you have to contact facebook and ask them for the contact info page for ilike. It takes forever to hear back, if they respond at all. My feedback is, don't fall for it until they get the kinks out. You'll be twiddling your thumbs wondering what now? Good luck if you have signed up already, because it may be a real long time before you can actually contact them, or delete your account. I don't know about you, but faq pages sometimes actually avoid certain questions, so you won't be able to leave.
I've rambled on long enough. Good luck.

That's correct. The page the iLike creates for you is just a copy of your iLike page, dolled up for Facebook. If you make changes to your iLike profile, the changes automatically show up on the Facebook page.

Also, and here's the real mystery, ilike has posted on my ilike page and partner pages, songs that I did not even submit to them

I think those come from listeners who are using the iLike plug-in with iTunes and Windows Media Player. They're just a listing of which of your tunes are getting listened to; I don't think anyone can download them unless you've specifically uploaded the songs yourself.

    iLike is partnered with garageband.com

that might explain random music showing up with them

iLike *is* Garageband. Same people, new brand, new mission.

    Hi Arlene:

We are being patient with iLike as they tune and tweak their GUI and control panel functions. They have a ways to go before they will be as clean and smooth as Last.Fm (which we also manage) and we are excited for the day when they will be totally seamless...they are perpetually improving their frontend.

Being that they are linked to so many other sites that we had already registered with (Facebook, Bebo, Hi5, etc.) we have ended up with more than one profile at each place...but we cross link them until they can be merged (if that ever becomes possible)

Still, take a look at our page on iLike and you'll see the results of our patience. The iLike sidebar and the Last.fm Scrobbler are both plug-ins that track what a user plays on their computer, or what we've uploaded for play on the site. These wiki-esque designs are bound to collect misspellings, incorrect titles, duplicate band names, etc. and cleaning all that up is a regular chore.

We still believe the promotional potential is worth it - we see this as the future of on-demand radio play - users make their own playlists, add comments as to why they like the songs, dedicate songs to other friends on the various social networks and more. The listener becomes an active promotional partner - pro bono even!

Give 'em a little more time?
