Weedshare will suspend operations on April 9th!
posted by Gregory Ray Records on Tuesday April 03 2007 @ 08:08PM PDT
    Digital Distribution Hi,

Unfortunately, we are announcing today that Weedshare will suspend
    operations on April 9th.

We've spent the last several weeks trying to resolve two serious problems
with the system, one of which is caused by Windows Vista and the other by
Windows Media Player 11. The problem with Media Player is the worst of the
two and we have been unable to find a solution.

As many have noticed, the new version of Windows Media Player will not play
Weed files after you try to buy them. Windows Media Player 11 will gain in
usage over time and the problem will become more common as it does. Rather
than operate under steadily deteriorating conditions, we've decided to
    suspend operations.

After April 9th, Weed licensing dialogs will be disabled so that new
purchases and free plays will be blocked. New accounts and new deposits to
Weed accounts will also be prevented, but withdrawals will still be
    processed.

We're using the term "suspend operations" because if it becomes possible for
Weed to resume operations, we will restore the system. Regardless, we will
fulfill all withdrawal requests from users and artists.

Weed files that you have bought will remain playable indefinitely. However,
it will no longer be possible to re-license files on new PCs or restore lost
licenses. Therefore, we recommend burning purchased Weed files to CD.

We hope to rebuild using a more open media format that will be playable on
all computer platforms: PC's, Macs, portable devices, and cell phones.

We apologize for the disappointing end to the Weed service. We're grateful
to everyone who has participated and contributed to the Weedshare community
    over the last four years.
