American Soldiers fighting in the Forgotten War “Afghanistan” reach out for support to hear one of America’s greatest artforms “Jazz”
The contemporary jazz group “Airborne “received an email from a American soldier fighting in Afghanistan, CSM Corey Woodard. It read:
I am currently deployed to Afghanistan with my battalion, consisting of Soldiers, Airmen, and Marines.
Many of my troops and I are avid smooth jazz listeners. However, we find it extremely difficult to get smooth jazz CDs here in such a remote and austere environment.
I would like to know if you or anyone you know would be willing to donate a few smooth jazz CDs to us during our deployment here in Afghanistan. Such a gift would greatly enhance my troops’ morale and give them a reminder of the good life that they all enjoyed back at home.
We would greatly appreciate anything you could send to make this deployment better. You may send any items to the following address and I will ensure they are equally shared and distributed:
Thanks in advance.

Airborne is sending a few copies of each of their 5 CD’s and is asking fellow jazz musicians to help support our troops. Airborne Jazz, a multi-cultural contemporary jazz band that hails from New Haven, CT, USA. The members of the band have toured across the USA, Europe, and Japan.

Count me in. One of my sons served in the 82nd Airborne with Fort Bragg; the other boy with the Stryker briggade out of Ft. Lewis. I'll send you some of my jazz/rhythm and blues cd "Passion".
Thanks for doing this.
Fondly,
Sally O'Brien

DEAR CD BABY & FRIENDS IN SMOOTH JAZZ...
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
I AGREE THAT YOU'RE ON TO SOMETHING GREAT HERE...WHAT A GREAT IDEA FOR GIVING THE GUYS & LADIES A TASTE OF HOME WITH AN ESCAPE IN THEIR PRECIOUS DOWN-TIME VIA THE WONDERFUL DIVERSITY OF AMERICAN MUSIC!
I DO A SMOOTH JAZZ SHOW FOUR TIMES A WEEK CALLED "SMOOTH 91.7" AT THE RICHARD STOCKTON COLLEGE IN SOUTH JERSEY, JUST OUTSIDE OF ATLANTIC CITY, AND I'M ALSO AN ARMY VETERAN.
MY SHOW AIRS ON THE INTERNET AS WELL AS LOCAL FM, SO I CAN DEDICATE A WEEKLY FOUR-HOUR SEGMENT TO THE SERVICEMEN--ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO HAVE LEFT RELATIVES BEHIND IN THIS AREA. ANYONE WHO IS FROM THE AREA SURROUNDING ATLANTIC CITY CAN TELL THEIR PEOPLE TO CONTACT ME AND I WILL DO SPECIAL SHOUTS ON THE AIR, OR I CAN EVEN LET THEIR PEOPLE COME INTO THE STUDIO TO DO IT THEMSELVES.
TROOPS CAN E-MAIL REQUESTS TO MY E-MAIL, AND I WILL TRY MY BEST TO FULFILL THEM WITHIN A WEEK, WITH A SHOUT-OUT.
MY SCHEDULE IS TUES 6PM-10PM, WED 12NOON-4PM, THURS 6PM-10PM & FRI 10AM-2PM. (EASTERN TIME)
