“The demand for artists to get on the show is huge and so inspiring!” says host of “Fame Games” and singer/songwriter, Laura Krier. “The amount of love coming in from artists and fans all over the world has all of us at MMI working day and night to quickly accommodate this.”
Last week’s show featured bands from Australia, California and Venezuela. “Minus the Hope,” the band out of California took “Fame Games” Track of the week by half a point.
Paul Sedkowski, resident songwriter and producer at MMI tells how all the demand came about. “Laura has been promoting her Nothing But Trouble album on the Internet and while doing that, she was making friends with all kinds of people and stumbled onto the idea of helping her new “artist” friends by featuring them on the radio show. And that was it. The whole thing took off and already has a life of its own. In the first three weeks alone, the traffic to the website quadrupled.”
“Sunbox” from London, England wrote “Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity and we will tune in regularly! You’re a true star, and you have touched the sky! What you’re doing is brilliant!”
The band “Frame” from Canoga Park, California, due to appear on Fame Games number 84, responded to the show´s producers, “We think it's an awesome idea and wish we knew of something like MMI in our area!”
Now they do.
“It’s really hard for artists to get radio play.” says Laura. “It costs a lot of money to run promotion campaigns and takes a lot of time and research to know whom to contact at the radio stations.”
Bryan Farrish, an independent radio promoter in California confirms this, “$30K would be a minimum to get charting and spinning in the smaller markets. Keep in mind that all of these costs are radio-only; they do not include any recording costs, manufacturing, printed media, retail, booking or video promotion.”
The waiting list is growing more and more each week and that is only from Laura and two of the other panelists, Jake Waby, 12, and Lexy Badger Ward, 13, taking requests from Internet friends.
“Jake and Lexy are what make the show really quirky.” says Paul. “Here’s two kids who are not only recording their first album, but they exactly represent the target market that labels always want to reach. Their opinion is particularly valuable to Indies out there."
The newest co-host and judge on “Fame Games” includes guitarist and songwriter, Graham Keeling, who is acclaimed on Laura’s biography as being the “Godfather” of MMI. “This show is exactly what the industry needs – less karaoke contests and more new songs.” says Graham. “It gives talented bands, who write their own music, a real chance to be discovered.”
“Fame Games” was founded in 2004 to provide airplay for unsigned singers and bands. The show also provides a wide range of information about the music industry, from writing and recording, to promotion and record release. The show's format also includes a weekly rundown of CDBABY.COM top sellers.
“Fame Games” is currently a free service to unsigned or Independently releasing artists. Plans are already underway to partner with BROADJAM.COM in expanding the concept.
Episodes of “Fame Games” are available every
week on-demand at http://www.meermusic.com and is broadcast from OCI 101.6 FM and 94.6 FM every Wednesday at 8pm and Saturday at 5pm. The listenership is over 1 million people on land and over 300,000 on the Internet.
