Biggest one-week CD Baby payout ever : $1,046,317
posted by Derek at CD Baby on Tuesday June 06 2006 @ 12:57AM PDT
News from Inside Just running the usual Monday-night payments to artists, and was quite surprised to see that this week's payout amount was over $1 million. $1,046,317.61 to be exact.

Pretty amazing that it took us four years to hit the $1 million mark in payouts to artists (1998 to 2002), now it can happen in a single week.

WOO HOOO!!!!! That is sooooo cool.

    good to hear and congrats!
I know I had at least 2 digital downloads (.99 cents) that helped to get that number so high :) LOL!!!! cool!

I laughed at myself yesterday when I checked my digital page and let out this big Whoop! I think the entire hotel heard me! LOL! As if I'd won a million dollar contract with an awesome label who lets' me keep all the rights to my stuff and is honest and forthright and lets me keep full creative control and does tons of great publicity /marketing around my music and loves and supports me me and spoils me rotten! ! LOL!!!! but it was only 2 more digital downloads for .99 cents LOL!!!

Derek you guys do more than just distribute, open channels for indies in the marketplace, and give us great ways to understand our sales from the access to data you give us,....That is all really importat stuff. but more than that my hopes raise by having this open channel support( CDBBABY.ccom) with which I can build my business and see fruits of my efforst every so often. Being an indie I can't do it alone annd yet can't affod to hire people to do certain tasks. The best feeling in the world. and though I feel there ought to be more fruits for the effort I put in, I also feel this chanel is stil new and that it's a matter of short time before that can happen.. since now there is a stable and steady diligent channel that doesn't shut down out of greed or exclusivity or fear or whatever, for it's own wants.. but rather recognizes that the channels gets to stay open as long as it's there for the greater good of us all somwehow..

    thanks
    regards
    BArb

    Derek -

Dude when you're 89, please be able to say you're STILL running CDBaby!

You're one of the few contemporary cats who can say that you make a positive and tangible differnce on the music scene!

    Remarkable,

Each time there is a new feat accomplished by the CDBABY team and all those affiliated, I'm reminded that simlpicity and determination coupled with interest in others reaching their muscial and artistic promulgation goals was the epiphany that Sir. Sivers harnessed and that ladies and Gentlemen, is the American Dream enunciated and enumerated. There will b numerous more millions earned and paid as Derek transcends into mythic legendhood and the gods bestow more epiphanies and unimaginable wealth upon all those who color outside the line and have faith in possibilities. Congrats!!

I see from our sales history that the majority of our buyers thus far are repeat CDBaby customers, and a great deal of our referring URLs are from within cdbaby.com, like from the style and new releases pages.

Thanks to Derek for giving us a site that not only SELLS our music, but PROMOTES it as well. Keep it up!

Hi Derek, You guys are the best and are being of service with a passion. You can't beat the service of the company, and the hugely little fees (sorry my manager taught me how to make ironies with words). I am so happy for all the artists who have made it here and I do enjoy hearing about all of the successes! It is such a pleasure to see results, humanity, kindness and business saavy which works without politics lol.
    Love you,

    Sage

This is way toooooo exciting..My cd is being processed as we
speak, and this gives me a lot of confidence about doing business
as an indie with CdBaby.com I am ampped!!!!!!!! My company plans
on contributing to these types of numbers.. Hopefully, with the
release of SoundsCan "Conception 2 Life" & Guccione aka Billy Ray
Valentine "Art of Husltin: Part I" we can become part of these
    staggering numbers!!!!!

    by Literati X on Saturday June 10 2006 @ 05:04PM PDT [ reply | parent ]
The numbers are iced out on a hot indie spring. And to re-think the CD Baby momento on Wall Street as thee new found money--commodity! Oh how the poetic average of creativity of song sing the thresholds'
tune of 52 million per year average. And it will rise by the the tons; beyond the streams and caches
and capital gains and electrical transcriptions and syncs and server-fixtations like a compulsive melody
echoing through the softwares of the OEM's strategic
hardware channels of pure symphonic bliss. . .

Congrats and Thanks! - I agree with Pat Ortman, having been here since '98 with my first release that is now going out of print...but will survive on iTunes and the rest of the digital vending machines Derek and CD Baby have brought me to. Only good-great-wonderful things to say about what has happened here at CD Baby for independent artists. Thanks again.

I have always been very happy with how much money we get in from our CDbaby accounts, and the pay is so prompt!
One problem I have had recently- the new Digital reports leave off band and album name. For a lable with 30 plus album and 15 bands that makes it very difficult to apply the payments to the bands so they get paid by us!
    :-)

    Derek,
I am so pleased to be a part of history along with you and CD baby. I was shocked when I 1st joined, because within weeks after my music was posted for digital distribution I was able to buy lunch with the check that I recieved (LOL). Even though it wasn't alot I was really excited about it. I'm glad to say that my last 3 checks allowed me to purchase more retail ready CD's, along wwith a new addition (equipemnt) for my studio.

Thanks again x1000 CD Baby!! yYou guys are the greatest!!!

    Derek,

As you can see from Lawae's comments about "buying lunch with CD Baby's checks" and others above....

my best wishes and continued congratualtions are in order to "you have made a difference in lots of soul's". Goes to prove that ONE MAN CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! in this world...especialy when he ENJOYS what he does..like you do Derek...keeping a 'cool hat' on the 'corporate outlook' and not giving into people who thinks money is everything..you have kept your VISION WITH COMPASSION ...and look what happened....? Growth in CDbaby AND you get to have FUN doing it. ( I always remember what you said. "if you are not having fun don't do it"...

Can't wait to be working with you and your team in my upcoming album release

    thanks Derek!
