News from Outside I read that different artist have asked about Statue Records. I know from experience that they are a scam. If you are contacted by them, save yourself the trouble and pass them by.

More info on Statue Records, here: http://cdbaby.org/stories/05/02/14/8744107.html

There is just one simple rule when swimming in these shark-invested waters we call the "music business"... If it looks too good to be true, IT IS!

    1. DO NOT EVER pay someone to get your band signed, NOBODY can promise that. A publicist/personal manager/entertainment attorney MAY get your demos in front of somebody, but they will never guarantee you anything. And if somebody thinks you're so great that you're "guaranteed" a deal, then they'll work for you for free because they know they're "guaranteed" a return on the back end.

C'mon people... are we all so freaking desperate that we'll sign anything some Guido puts in front of us? Take your money, press some records, and get YOURSELF out there. Record labels are fast becoming obsolete anyway....

I am a Statue Records artist, they are a total scam. My CD cover was banned by them because as they stated "Wal Mart and bigger chain stores wouldn't carry it", they made their own cover. Wal Mart and bigger chain stores are still not carrying it.

They promised me a log in to check out my CD sales and my booking and management contacts. That was in October 2004, in March of 2005 you can click the "members" link of their site and read the "coming soon" message still.

My contract stated they were going to sell songs individually as well by internet download, to date no such option is available. You click the downloadable catalog link at their site and it takes you to the same link as if you were to click the "buy me" link.

They were promising this whole new redone website back in October, nothing has changed yet.

They gave me the number to a guy who allegedly does the promotions, no one ever answers the phone and it goes to voicemail and after you hear the message you are told "voice mailbox is full" and you get disconnceted. It has been like this since Decemeber, it is now April.

Ask them who they sent your CD to as a promo. You will get no reply.

As soon as I started asking questions they started ignoring my emails.

I'm pursuing matters further with an attorney, I would like to shut them down before they rip people off.

Their scam is to get you to pay $100 for a "web programming fee" which of course is optional, but if you don't pay it then you're not on their website and they can cancel you at any moment that your cd doesn't sell at least 10 units in a month, with no promo that's very easy to do.

And since there is no way in hell of ever finding out how many CD's they sold of yours you never have to worry about receiving a royalty check.

They also don't even make the CD cover a booklet, it's a cheap piece of cardstock with front and back imaged.

I am in total agreement with the above artist. I, too, am a Statue artist, and I believe we should probably get together on this lawsuit and file a Class Action lawsuit against them.
Please contact dashboardrockstar@hotmail.com if you have been affected by this shady company.

    Thanks!

I feel that I was victimized by Statue Records. I have a family member that is still waiting for the albums that she ordered four months ago! I can't even order my "own" album!

Listen folks, they don't even send you junk-mail--except for their initial contract. I can buy brownies from the Girl-Scouts and probably end up with catalogues of their product in the mail for years on end.

I have already been victimized by them for the following reasons:

For having relatives poke at me with questions as to why my name is not on the roster--even though I paid the $100.

For failing to reply to my most basic questions so that I can at least have an answer to friends that ask the most basic questions in kind.

For neglecting to send product ordered by a relative after several months--and still waiting.

For trivializing my music by having sent offers to hundreds, if not thousands of other musicians.

The aforsaid are only a few of the reasons. I feel that it has been a hurtful and bad experience. I thank my lucky stars that I did not tell too many people about this misadventure without anonimity. Had I have done so would have been extremely embarrassing!

I have often wondered about the person or people that run it. At times I have wondered if only one person runs the whole operation and that is the reason for so many errors. On their initial website about a third of the artists on the roster have misspelt band names, mismatched music or no music samples at all. Such a degree of error creates for me a wonderment as to the probability that the person(s) that runs the label directly or has in his employ a drug addict that maliciously fouls things up or steals the $100 (the fee for website inclusion).

It appears that they have ripped off and hurt the artistic spirit of many people. I don't know why they still exist! I think that they are after more than just money! I think that they are out to hurt people. It is possible that it is the case. They make far too many intolerable errors.

My gut instinct and conclusion tell me that there is something more sinister about them than taking your money. I think they get malicious enjoyment out of hurting people. It is possible that there is someone in that so-called label that deliberately hurts artists through a multitude of means and--like a seriel arsonist--probably masterbates over hurting people particularly as it relates to taking from them their hopes and wishes. I think it is a lot like the arsonist that enjoys seeing houses burn down and families out in the cold or like the broken spirit of musselmen in Nazi concentration camps with perverted guards foaming at the mouth in malicious delight.
