| CD Baby passes $10 MILLION in CDs sold |

In case anyone tries to tell you that independent music has no value, is small potatoes, is just "garage bands", or anything else like that - you can tell them that CD Baby has now sold over $10 MILLION in independent CDs.
That's $10 million in CD sales from 1998 to now (February 2004).
$4.65 million in 2003. (Compared to $2.5 million in 2002.)
All of it independent music.

This confirms what we all have known for years: the majority of good music is unsigned! Consider that of the hundreds of thousands great musicians that work 9-5 in non-music related fields only a minuscule percentage will get signed by a "major" lable. Consider that most of the stuff that is marketed is not worth the effort to put the CD in the player, to say nothing of the time lost on it and that all art is created because the artist cannot help but to create. And - what is most compelling - if you do sign with a major you sell your soul.
I've made music for nearly thirty years now and am just now doing my CD. I'll sell it, to be sure. But I do music because I can't help but to make music. CD Baby gives me a place to share my life-long passion with others and to access tools that would be beyond my budget to utilize were it not for Derek and his vision of music for the people.
Let's make our music and make it available!

I've got to add my congratulations to CDBABY for their - and our - success! What Derek and crew really deserve a hearty thank you for is their first-rate customer service. A friend purchased a CD from CD Baby (at my recommendation) recently. An email was sent a week later thanking them for the purchase and asking if everything was OK with the CD. I don't know any other provider that does the same, especially not with the sense of humor and obvious care for the consumer that CD Baby models. KUDOS!
I also have to say thanks to the folk that support HostBaby! I was treated as if their whole business depended on my satisfaction. I had a small problem and received good support and follow-through provided quickly and with good humor. You guys are great!
