I'm very pleased to announce my endorsement from Dean Guitars. I thought my fellow musicians might be interested in how I got it. Here's a summary:
1. Assess your equipment needs (guitar, bass, etc.). Do you need a product endorsement?
2. Do homework. Find companies that make the instrument you want.
3. More homework. Find out as much as possible about the company. Do you want to associate yourself with them?
4. Assess yourself. What do you have to offer the company that will endorse you? Bottom line, they are interested in gaining exposure, and selling product. Can you help them do that? How? Answer this question and you've got your strategy for getting an endorsement.
5. Make contact, via email or phone with the Artist Relations rep for your prospective endorser. Ask if you may send in a presskit for consideration. If you can, do a little upselling here. Get their interest!!
6. Put together a decent presskit, highlighting your strategy (from point 4) for helping out your potential endorser. They want to know what YOU can do for THEM.
7. Mail it in, and follow up. Don't be a nag. Be professional.
My particular strategy was to push my web presence. I'm not playing live shows right now, so my web presence is the vehicle for my endorser to get exposure.
Now go get those endorsements!
